Bike Fit Analysis
A better fitting bike is a better biking experience.
If you would like to avoid a cycling injury while training, optimize your biking performance, or determine if your bike fit is part of the reason you have pain while riding, our bike fitting service is for you. Our expert bike fitter (who is also a doctor of physical therapy) will perform a cyclist-specific movement screen as well as utilize our research-grade 2D motion capture system to identify faulty movements and positioning of your body on your bike.
"I started having mild knee pain eight months ago. After a series of DIY adjustments over a lot of miles, I decided to renew my bike fit. I ended up at Beyond Exercise in Madisonville. This was a blessing. David at Beyond Exercise was able to help me stretch and eliminate the pain during the first visit without putting a wrench on my bicycle. He then proceeded to teach me how to take care of this issue myself as part of the bike fit. On the included follow up visit, he went into more detail and offered follow up physical therapy at the same site. I have over 900 miles since the first visit and am very happy with the results. We also discussed slight improvements to my bike fit based on the motion capture and his impression of my movement. I am implementing these with great results.”

What to Expect
The fitting service is a 4-step process:
A brief subjective interview will be completed, including an overview of injury history, goals, and concerns.
Motion capture is performed using the Noraxon MR4 2D motion-tracking system to capture the rider’s baseline position.
This system automatically tracks the cyclist’s joint angles in real-time, analyzes these angles, and populates the findings into an easy-to-read report.
Your fitter takes information from the subjective interview, movement screen, the findings from the motion capture report, and their physical therapy skills and knowledge to develop a blueprint of what adjustments may be needed to meet the goals of the cyclist. The fitter then applies these adjustments incrementally to achieve the best balance between rider goals, physical limitations, and available hardware on the bike.
Motion capture is repeated to capture a final position. Both motion capture reports are provided to the rider at the end of the session for comparison, as well as a list of adjustments made to the bike, and any recommendations the fitter might have for the rider.
While our goal is to maximize your fit with the existing hardware on your bike, your fitter may recommend equipment if it appears this may significantly improve the fit. We recommend your favorite local bike shop for any equipment needs.
Every bike fitting service comes with a free 30-day follow up, and includes the opportunity to perform another 2D motion capture if any further adjustments are made to the bike.
*The Bike Fitting session does not include diagnosis of any specific underlying pathologies that may explain the findings in the reports, but there will be some general discussion depending on the findings. It also does not include instruction in corrective exercises, treatments, or any other formal “Physical Therapy” services. For those services, a follow-up with one of our Physical Therapists who specializes in cyclists is highly recommended. These therapists have extensive training in cycling analysis, corrective exercise instruction, cyclist coaching, and treatment of soft tissue & joint mobility restrictions & injuries. The therapists with these skillsets include Dr. David Montgomery, Dr. Ellen Foster, Dr. Ryan Embley, and Dr. Jennifer Moehring-Schmidt.
