MIKE CANAN

I'm Mike Canan. I began running in 1997 with the goal of getting in better shape for my senior year of high school baseball. I ran cross country that fall and became hooked on running. I realized I was a better runner than baseball player and skipped baseball in favor of track that spring.

I ran off and on for the next 10 years until I ran my first marathon in 2007. From there, I became obsessed with marathons and half marathons.

What's your favorite pre-race meal?
A bagel or the Einstein Brothers Power Protein bread/bagel

What's your favorite non-running or triathlon activity?
I coach both of my sons' baseball teams. I love coaching, watching and playing baseball -- especially with my two sons.

What's your preferred recovery activity?
Eating.

What motivated you to get involved in your sport and what keeps you motivated to keep participating?
I'm a super competitive person. I constantly want to push myself to get better and better.
